Highs and Goodbyes

Updated: Mar 16

Well what a fast few months we have had. I went to Hisaronu with my daughter and her partner back in October. They hadn't stayed there before but absolutely loved it! In fact they are wanting to take their kids back there later this year. The weather was perfect and as it was the end of the season, there were lots of bargains to be had. We travelled to Cadianda and roamed around the ruins, which was on my bucket list. Unfortunately, we didn't make it any further out as Turkish drivers are very unpredictable. We did make it to Babadag Mountain, as a person who is scared of heights, I felt very brave travelling up the mountain in the cable car. The journey did not disappoint. We went up at sunset and the whole visit was surreal. The views were amazing and there was a red glow, I've never experienced anything like it. We also visited Kayakoy (the ghost village) and the lagoon a couple of times. I also stayed a few days in Calis, in a hotel overlooking the sea. I ventured out for meals but apart from that I was happy to sit on my balcony, listening to the waves roll onto Calis Beach. I purchased a couple of items from my favourite silversmith Bellisimo Silver, who I visit every time I go, I highly recommend her.

In November I went to Alnmouth in Northumberland with my husband Mark, brother Andrew and his partner Jo. We hired a cottage just off the main street. Alnmouth is a fantastic place to stay, there are lots of high class eateries and village pubs all in very close proximity to one another. The beautiful sandy beach was at the end of the road which was great to walk our dogs Suki and Coco and we visited Bamburgh village and castle, and drove along the causeway to Lindisfarne/Holy Island. A short break at Seahouses for an ice cream too!

In January I went to Lanzarote with my husband for our 35th wedding anniversary. I have to say, it was a perfect holiday and we met some lovely people who we are still in touch with (hi Al & Staff!). I am happy to go back there next year, but might find somewhere else to try.

On 29th February, we lost my beautiful sister-in law Nina Taylor (nee Walsh). It was a very sudden and unexpected death which left the whole family and many friends in shock. Nina leaves behind my brother and three children. My heart breaks for them all. She was such a vibrant, caring, unique soul. There will never be another like her. Fly high beautiful!

Nina's passing made us think about our own mortality. We purchased a small motorhome and hope to visit many beautiful places in the British Isles and beyond, so watch this space!

Today, I have booked a holiday back to Turkiye, I am travelling with my beautiful step-mother Cathy, I hope to be able to meet many new Turkish characters to share with you! I'm also hoping to be back in Calis Beach later in the year with my aunt. Fingers crossed!

Until next time...
